Announcing LittleBigPlanetGalaxy’s first LittleBigPlanet 2 contest:

We’re picking up on the ideas that have been swimming through Mark and Alex’s heads about LBP being a possible platform for creating whole new genres of gaming, going beyond racers, arcade shooters or good old platformers. They seemed to be (not so secretly) hoping that someone would ambition to do this, as seen in this video interview:

So we’re giving you a little nudge, a little incentive to get those creative brain juices going. Read on for all the details!

Break-Out-A-Genre, Win A Crown Contest GXY3

Description

What is a video game genre? It’s basically the category you would classify it as. For example: First Person Shooter, Racing Sim or Role Playing Game (RPG). If you’d like a better definition or more examples of the main video game genres, check out the Wikipedia Article!

Your task for this contest is to use the immensely diverse tool set in LittleBigPlanet 2 to come up with the most original genre you can think of. There are two ways you can go about this. The first is to literally come up with a brand new genre, one that we have never seen before in video games. Quite a task, but I bet some of you seasoned or brand new LBP creators have already had your eye on such a feat.

Your second option is to remix genres. Like the Basketball RPG game mentioned in the interview! Either remix two genres together, or add such a twist to an already existing genre that it feels fresh and brand new. The choice is yours and the only limit lies within your brain. So send a few sackbots up there and have’em connect a bunch of microchips and sequencers to get all the horsepower that big ol’brain of yours can muster!

To recap: Think up a new genre, create a level/game in LittleBigPlanet 2, then publish it for all to marvel and us to judge. The winner will be decided by both originality and fun-ablity of his or her creation!

Rules:

1) For your level to be eligible, you must have met the criteria mentioned in the description above.

2) You must have placed a LittleBigPlanetGalaxy sticker in your level/game. It may be at the very beginning or at the very end, or cleverly sneaked into your level/game wherever you please. This will not affect how we judge your level, so feel free to just place it simply or integrate it as you want to. However, make sure it is visible in a main area of your level. You can get a LittleBigPlanetGalaxy sticker from our community level.

3) Your level/game name must include the contest prefix. Simply add GXY3 at the beginning of your title.

4) You need to be a member in the forums. Just sign up, make sure to include your PSN ID in your profile. We will be handing out the code for the crown via private message to the winner.

5) Once you’re signed up and your level/game is created, tell us its name and your PSN ID in this thread. To make it easy for us to find your level/game, be sure to leave us the LBP.me link (if you know how).

6) The contest is open to both North Americans and Europeans ;)

The winning entry will earn you the coveted Rare Prize Crown costume piece. Check here for all the details on this epic item.

The top 3 levels/games will also be showcased in a Youtube video we will make and post on the site!

Deadline:

Friday March 18th @ 23:59 / 11:59PM EST (Eastern Time)

We will be checking published and re-published dates as we judge the entries, so make sure you don’t re-publish your level/game for any reason after this deadline until the winners are announced.

    Could it be open to S.E. Asia too, I don’t know way it would only be for those two regions but I don’t know the codes work so tell me if it could be or not. I really want to at least try and get a prize crown.

    I’m definitely gonna enter this contest. The problem for me is that i’m better with platformers. Either way I can make a pretty detailed level. If I win this contest I will be youngest person to win the crown!

    I’m a little upset that it’s only for NA and EU players. Is there a specific reason why only these people can enter? Does the code not work for other people? (I’m AU btw) I would really love to enter, and have a chance to get the LBP Crown!

    Rule #6. Sorry but these are the regions we can cater to. Being from Canada myself, I know how it feels to be unable to enter a competition. Considering this is open to all of Europe and North America, I think it’s pretty fair. It’s very hard to make contests worldwide affairs, although I look forward to the day when this becomes an annoyance of the past.

    I know it can cause a few migraines trying to come up with a completely new genre, but like KAPBAM says above, remixing a genre is always a route you could take. Or maybe try mixing up a few different genres. Just keep in mind, fun, fun, fun. Nobody like being frustrated when playing a game do they?

    Unfortunately, submitting a concept isn’t what we’re looking for. If you’re planning a series I would just concentrate on completing at least one idea in your series through to completion.
