is a community-based creation game released exclusively for the Playstation 3 with a tagline that pretty much sums it up, Play, Create, Share. At its heart LBP is a platformer. But it’s so much more than that. By allowing users to create their own levels, worlds, and spaces using the games extensive tool sets this game is in a genre all it’s own. The Play, Create, Share genre. In fact Sony just announced at this years 2009 E3, a new game that will be joining Little Big Planet in this newly founded genre. ModNation Racers. It looks to be pretty amazing and overflowing with customization options but this game is all about Kart racing.
The concept behind Little Big Planet is quite simple but the way that Media Molecule carries it out is quite unique. You’ll start off by customizing your avatar which begins as a Sackboy or Sackgirl. Creations can range from cowboys and indians to famous characters like Kratos from God of War and Nariko from Heavenly Sword. Disney content was also just announced at E3 as not far off in the future. Once you’ve created your sackboy or girl, you’re off to play through the levels that come shipped with the game or jump right in to the over 800,000 community levels. Levels that have been created by people just like you. You see, Media Molecule has given us, the end-users, the tools to create your own game. Mainly intended to be platforming game creation tool, it’s really open to your imagination. Some have created things as complex and functional as calculators.
